Hot Rod is the SDCC exclusive Alternator, Eddie. Geez. (At least mine is.)

Rodimus Prime is Rodimus Prime, to me. Besides, the figure transformation is like 2% difference between the 2.

okay, i'm genuinely confused...i get that Rodimus comes with a trailer like Prime, but in bot mode, isn't Rodimus the same size as Hot Rod?...doesnt his trailer just disappear like Primes does?...or does it somehow contribute to his mass?...is the one i got from TRU not capable of becoming Rodimus?

It's the same figure minus the trailer. But in the toon, Hotrod physically grows when he becomes Rodimus Prime. Thus since they call him Rodimus and the original MP came with the trailer, it is not odd that he be the same size as the other larger characters, and thereby larger than the igear vans. If you think of him as sportscar Hotrod, then yeah, the scales don't match quite as well. It's semantics and in the eye of the beholder... but the name and trailer make him Rodimus in my mind and thus he should be Optimus, Grimlock, Starscream sized, while the vans should be smaller. YMMV

Technically, "Hot Rod" or "Rodimus Minor" is the shorter version of the MP figure... He has 2 faces (the faces flip around, but the differences are so minimal it's silly) and the legs extend a bit longer for the "Prime" conversion. Not enough to make much of a difference, though, if you ask me. I am glad I got the version with the trailer, but I haven't even transformed my Hot Rod into his car form yet, let alone the Space Winnebago.

I see you got that little Insecticon today, Eddie. Pics?

I actually commend them for making him fit in with the scale of the others (since they have since changed up the scale) but I feel like it's so damned redundant. If you could trade in your MP-04 for it, I'd do that, but I've already got this figure, at about 25% bigger, and he cost less. As much as I like him, I can't keep doing this. In a line with only 8 characters (and about half of them repaints of a previous one) it's ridiculous that they're already remaking Prime, and it's the 3rd release out of 10! And he's not a $10 repainted Snake Eyes version #14 for the series, he's a $250 toy.

I'll wait for the Ultra Magnus update with the trailer armor, and then consider getting the scaled-down Prime.

He looks good, but unless they do a Megatron that's scaled down to match, then it's slightly annoying. And even if they don't, it's annoying! I would've been fine with the larger MP Prime and Megatron if it meant we got more characters. If he was $150, I'd maybe bite. Not at that price.

This is from a member at Seibertron:
Quick summary: Some major GOODs and BADs of MP-04 compared to MP-01 or MP-04 with container:

GOODs:
1) Better outlook... with detailed waist design and the LONG arms can be adjusted... with transformable gun which can be stored at the back
2) The most detailed G1 MP container made by TakaraTomy/Hasbro so far

BADs:
1) Lack of mechanic details (non-movable mouth plate, non-shinny eyes, no pipes behind the arms, no communication panels on the forearms, no lighting features inside chest, non-movable flipping plates on the legs, thumb cannot move... only index finger and the other 3 fingers can move as one piece...)
2) Lack of metal parts ... I think over 90% are plastic... only metal parts are found on the feet incl. screws... haha

I didn't realize that the hands were limited now... Is Rodimus like that?

Rods fingers move as one but have two knuckle joints..the thumb also moves seperately...

Did he mean MP-01 compared to MP-10?

he was trying to compare something to MP-10, yet he never said MP-10, which was bit confusing...

i saw that UM thing Rex....thing that bothers me about it, is that if they make a new UM, he'll clearly be based on MP-10...i'd much rather they use MP-04 as a base so that he'd be really big compared to MP-10 Prime...

Well, as much as I like the new Spike and official Roller, I just don't care enough at this point to get MP-10. I will get the UM repaint if he comes with a trailer, and I will probably get the US spec release of Prime when he gets released by Hasbro. I just already have the completed trailer (due to an aftermarket roller kit that came with Ultra Magnus's proper rifle) but having a Prime that's smaller is nice. But I'll wait for it, and if we never get it, then oh well.

Thing is, I think that the ship has sailed on the original mold of MP-02 being used with a full trailer. Now, iGear may make one, and if they beat Hasbro/Takara then I'll get the iGear kit so long as I can still get a Takara MP-02 at the time.

From that pic, UM doesn't seem to be as big as I'd hoped compared to MP-10, though. And the chest seems boxy while the arms are too spindly and long. The feet look pretty good though, but that's barely 1/3 of the figure.

exactly!...i really wanted/hoped he'd be more statuesque and chunky...and i know its kinda blurred, but he seems more short and stumpy...based on MP-10 won't impress me...

i know its early though, and this is just a tease/concept, so i'll wait and see if it improves...

have you seen the way he's done in IDW?...looks REALLY good IMO

Nah, haven't seen the IDW one.

The Titanium figure actually didn't use the Prime body as a base, but he retained the classic look. I actually never realized that is how the original toy transformed because I never had him, but he's the one figure from TF:TM that I ever wanted besides maybe Springer and Hot Rod (but never Rodimus Prime). I finally saw him as an adult though, but actually kind of liked the Prime body being in an exo-suit. It's a cool idea, really. They could do some really cool stories with that, and I'm surprised that they never really played that up in the original cartoon movie, or even the . He's really a powered-up twin of Prime, which is totally badass. I always thought they should do a story where Prime has to borrow his suit or something. Or showing UM powered-down without the trailer armor.

(I'm sure it's been done recently, I just haven't read it.)

And in a year, people will be saying, "Man, I should have bought MP-10 when they were only $225..." Ok, maybe not. That does sound high. But the scale matching all the other MP's should be aces. HasTak said in the last few days they are considering a scaled-down Megatron and that they've heard the many fans who want a MP soundwave. So maybe one or both of those are heading our way.

I don't have an MP-04... but I do have three different versions of MP-01 (Takara, 20th, & DVD). And then I've got a PP-01.

I'd love to see an MP-10 vs PP-01 comparison. I imagine them being pretty much the same size.

I already have MP-04. Plus the in-scale Roller. So I've got that, and MP-04 matches well with the Alternators in vehicle form. I have pretty much talked myself into the MP-10 repaint that Hasbro will no doubt make, and if I get him, then I'll probably be dumb enough to get the re-scaled Megatron to go with the Hasbro Prime.

But a Soundwave is next on my priority list. He's up there with UM. Actually, maybe my #1 pick right now. I'd love to have him, as my Decepticons are definitely lacking without him in my collection. I can't believe they haven't made him yet, to be quite honest.

Dammit! These pics make him look pretty awesome, I'll have to admit:

Nah, nacho, MP-10 is taller. About a head's height, or a little more. Check this thread, it's not in the top, but another member posted the pic about halfway down.

Definitely, and for good reason. I can't stand the Bayformer aesthetics. Prime's about the only one that looks good. A few of the "human alliance" figures look impressive, but their heads are still awful, and even the bodies are still slightly bug-like. Most of the movie figs just feel cheap.

I will say, that damned video review that I just posted made me really appreciate the new engineering that went into MP-10. If folks post pics with comparisons to the Seekers, I may break down and start considering getting the damned thing at the $250 price tag. How sad is that?

The 3rd party guys are making some incredible toys that stir the souls of transformers fans. Hasbro is making repaints of characters and molds that no one wanted in the first place.

Notice that not a single 3rd party design is of a bayformer. They're all inspired by G1.

those things seem to go hand in hand :)

in store TFs = for kids

3rd party = for fans/collectors

if Hasbro thinks that market isn't worth their time, then f*@# 'em!

these 3rd party guys know what they are doing!...chunky and awesome!

I never got that one, as it never made sense to me as a series or anything, although it's a cool one-off. What the hell is "hybrid" about it? That part I never got either.

$50ish shipped is a steal. Wasn't he going for $100+ at some point? I never realized that Prime was 4" tall. That's a lot of detail for a small design.
