as an ARAH fag :) I can no longer give two shits what Hasbro makes anymore. Not to say I don't dig "more realistic" decos, I would rather just see new parts so I can go back to playing with men's buttholes and make my own ARAH accurate figures. Also as said fag I don't like the Con set either.
I like ARAH designs, gaudy and colorful, its what I like, not sorry for it. You Modern update tranny;s can have your "realistic"toys :)

Oh man. Arah fags and Modern Update Trannys.

That is awesome.

Seriously.

It's been 30 years! FUCK ARAH! GROW UP! Haha

There's only so many times you can see the same damn repaint. At least with the new Firefly, Footloose, the PoC Lowlight, etc we were able to get nicely done updates yet still holding close to the original. But come on, are we ever going to see a realistic Lifeline, or (be ready for it ) Sci Fi.

How about some new characters? I mean, we've only tripled the world's technology since ARAH Joe began, yet everything still is going off of 1980's science fiction.

That's one of the reasons I actually kind of enjoyed the Spytroops and Valor vs venom line. Actually wanted to bring new characters in. I want to see some modern updates of Black Out, Crosshairs, Barrel Roll, blah blah blah.

And we did get a new character, Agent Helix. :D

From a practical standpoint, the ME created a ton of new characters... and about three of them survived (the Stall trio). The rest were pretty much reviled.

I'm not saying a new character here and there would be bad, but a large scale influx would just feel like TF circa 1986 (i.e. let's kill off the established characters so we can sell you some new stuff).

I think anything at this point to 'sell more stuff' would be good. It's hard enough to find anything decent at retail.

I'd love to have the same experience I had years ago. Walking into the toy aisle and seeing LOADS of joes in the aisles. This was during the days of VvV and the comic packs

Whenever theres' a new character introduced, they're basically just a regurgitated concept. Do we really need to have another flamethrower when the concept has been replaced decades ago? I enjoyed the early sci fi elements in the first few waves of ARAH but after that, each new character has served as a replacement without adding anything new. While it's a little outlandish, I really like what I did with my Jurassic Park figure I had by giving him Sci Fi's chest armor, my MGS railgun, and calling him Haikili, a member of the Naval Experimental Weapons Division. I like my military characters, but I also like them to at least keep the line fun.

That's why I hated Charbroil and never warmed up to Sci-Fi (he was just a more garish version of Flash!).

I wouldn't mind sub-teams with specific specialties... but real specialties and decos, not gay neon night force, "look at me" tiger force, or lucasfilm reject BF2000. Actual teams with a realistic purpose.

One day ARAH collectors will be like Charlie Chase fans, I.E. 5 original ones left. If you want the Joe line to be around for your great granchillin' you need to just get a grip on the fact that they have to change.

That means your combat medic dressed all in red and white, your laser trooper in neon green and the ninja you all claim can beat Batman, Wolverine, and all the West Coast Avengers with one hand tied behind his back need to go the way of the dodo.

YOU* need to grow up, stop demanding Hasbro cater to your 30 year old nostalgia and let the designs get with the times.

*YOU: ARAHFags. Those that want nothing from the Joe line other than rehashes from '82-'94. You are the Fudds of the Joe collecting world. Fuck all the other fans as long as my as my niche ARAH figure gets produced.

I get a little nostalgic sometimes (mostly during the monthly banner contests), but I'd was rather have a laser trooper with modern tac and camo than a bunch of ARAH rehashes. I guess I believe in creative evolution or something like that.

Hasbro can do whatever they want. But if I'm paying $30+ for a 4" figure, it better goddamn well be whatever it is that I'm looking for. The Club is separate from Hasbro as far as their demographic (it is strictly ONLY ARAHfags so it makes sense to pander to the crowd on this one.) Sure, not everyone is going to agree and not everyone is going to be satisfied, but this thread is about the pricy JoeCon idiot nerds willing to pay $30+ a pop for their nostalgia.

I'm all for the brand evolving and moving forward at retail, and for kids. But when we're talking a convention engineered around ARAHfaggotry, what do you expect them to make?

Really has nothing to do with the club, who are doing what they're supposed to be. It's the fans that think Hasbro should be putting all their efforts into reliving past glories.

Don't pretend like you haven't read their asinine whining on HT and other forums. They're generally the ones who want shit like o-rings and less articulation, too.

Well look at RoC Ripcord. He as a third string man on the roster. They should have been happy the character was used at all.

I know, but it's the JoeCon thread! ;)

Just giving you shit, I agree with you for the most part. Hell, I don't even like everything from ARAH myself. But I don't want anymore water head baby ARAH sculpt Joes. Gimme 30th+ articulation or 25th at the very least, or go home. I didn't like the women, Roadblock, Bazooka and Destro having single knee joints in the early 25th line... and talk of taking away ankle and wrist or worse, too? Blasphemy!

One of the reasons I like guys like Night-Viper or even Frag-Viper is the creativity behind them. There's at least an inspired idea there. There's not a single outstanding thing about the majority of the new movie figures aside from the ARAH nods, unfortunately.

Look at the meltdown over a Korean actor playing SS. Or Dwayne Johnson playing Roadblock because he's not black enough.

Perhaps I look at the movie line with the eye of a customizer with an idea for specific parts. I see a lot of nice stuff in the later, in danger, waves.

Valid points, Giga. Dwayne Johnson is about perfect for the roll, especially if you need a name to put asses in the seats.

And not just the fat ones of the man-children.

Round of applause, K Tiger just gave me hope. I completely agree with you sir. Thing is, it seems that only a small niche believes this way. Which when you look at what can be done with the line, yet they won't. The Arah based fans need to take a long hard look at the 25th line. We saw how many fucking Snake Eyes? Stormshadow? Duke? Cobra commander? Of course, these were based towards those who loved the 80s designs and yet the fans still complained about all the rehashes. It's time tomorrow grow the fuck up fans, accept the modern times. No more damn marine village people.

Of course if I posted this on HT, my shit would get jumped. Might try making another account for this sole reason.

So who here wants both?...both ARAH homages AND new more realistic figures?

Oh, and I think Rock woulda been better as Gung-Ho...I believe I read somewhere that Rock said he had a choice between the two...

If the homages are in the vain of 3 pack Firefly, PoC Lowlight, 30th Stormshadow, sure. But I just want to see something new! Innovative! Anything but the same figures again and again.

So rock playing a honkey coon ass is more okay than Marlon Wayans playing a cracker-ass paratrooper?

See, that bugged the shit out of me, for the simple fact that they could have written the same story with the same actor and called him Stalker or someone else. They could have made everyone happy by keeping with classic naming convention. Or they could have used the code name and given him a new file name. I have no problem with codename reuse.

But Wallace Weems is a redheaded guy that single-handedly invaded cobra island looking for his bear-suited girlfriend.

So make fun if you like. If they had remade A-Team and made BA a white dude, there would have been riots in the streets.

But by the same token, I don't think Joe should be stuck in the 80's either. I'm not sure why they can't make modern stuff that looks great and seems appropriate for today's modern military while giving long-time fans a nod to classic characters or decos without being garish or completely outlandish or impractical. There has to be a happy medium in there somewhere.

It seems like a perfect fit, a ultra modern special missions force. Hell GIJOE was advanced for the 80's, why not make them into a Ghost Recon like team now?

The core idea for Joe can stay the same, even the villains can essentially remain the same, just get them into the correct century already!

The overall public impression of the military/etc in the 1980's pretty much fits GIJOE. Look at Stripes, or Spies Like Us, or Rambo or whatever else you want to pick. GIJOE fit very well in that era since everything was already being portrayed as over the top and VERY American-themed and jingoistic.

Now look at the military today, they are held in a somewhat higher regard (by some..), and people recognize that some of them have died for their country, and they are in harms way. In the 1980's, there was no real fighting going on, so it was easy to poke fun at them.

I think they need to find a way to bridge the gap between the decades and create a toy universe that's entertaining and yet keeps some semblance of reverence towards the actual military.

Though I think at this point Hasbro would be thinking it's easier to just can it all and stick to My Little Pony and Transformers.

The A-Team isn't accurate comparison, as BA was an integral part of the team, the same cannae be said about Ripcord.

I guess at the end of the day I can't be bothered to get my nose out of joint if they don't stick full-cloth to ARAH. But, then again, I did boycot Memoirs of a Geisha because they used Ziyi Zhang's Chinese, barely-speaks-English ass as the main character. Fairly hypocritical.

BA is a bad example because they nailed it. I can't think of another muscle bound black actor that could have pulled it off and that includes Flint native Terry Crews.
