They'll be costlier...no doubt...plus, by the time you find out about their preorders, HT will have long ago cleaned them out...just saying

Some people actually like Ninjas, you know. From a custom building point of view at least.

I'd rather pass on what I think is silly ass crap, like the Heat-Viper. Or how about whatever that trooper is wearing the motorcycle helmet - Echo trooper? Yeah, he's a waist of shit parts as is.

Oh, and CC.

The Echo trooper is this:

I wondered who (or what) the hell that was supposed to be. Sort of out of left field compared to the other ones.

Not a bad kitbash, but it just looks ridiculous to me. A little too sci-fi, and not in a way that fits in anywhere else. I know that sounds dumb, but it just doesn't fit to me. Maybe ROC? Unless it's part of a filler wave, I don't care to see that one unless they tool up more new parts for it. As of now, it's just lackluster to me.

-----

So after thinking about JoeCon a good deal more, I have to say that this is the standout, most disappointing convention showing I can remember in the last few years—save for maybe NYCC, where there was zero showing at all.

Maybe I'm just tired of getting yanked around with my favorite property, tired of delays and cancellations, tired of spending too much on too little, tired of false promises and teases, or generally tired of the Club's bumblefuck bullshit or Hasbro's dismal distribution and poor planning... but after most shows like this, I've been excited for at least something new that was shown. Something.

JoeCon 2013?

Not. One. Goddamn. Thing. has me truly excited this time. I saw things I liked, and have things I hope to like, but it's all based off speculation and hopes at this point. Nothing concrete, and way too many maybes.

They need to ship those Homefront Heroes sets the fuck out soon, so I can get something from JoeCon (that I already overpaid for, to boot).

I think the reason they didn't show anything new is that they didn't have a plan past retaliation.

You've got a political climate where guns are bad, people are tired of the wars overseas, and a kids toy involving both. They probably said you know what, if retaliation bombs Joe is going on hiatus. If the Rock and Willis can't pull off a successful movie and sell toys then we invest in something else.

Well good for them, but I still want zombie vipers and shadow tracker. I think they should also use the parts from POC Dusty to make a better Joe Trooper. Just say'in.
Better Joe Trooper, you say? Articulate the Night Fox 5 poa fig - perfection, and done.

That's good because the Ultimate blows that worthless* one out of the water.

*to me
Worthless? I wouldn't go that far. More like a step in the right direction, imo. It has it's merits for a more classic styled Ninja, but just not specifically SS to most... again, imo. It was a Godsend to me personally, for customs parts, but the new stuff does have me even more excited. Then again, I'm a Ninja whore...

The Echo trooper is this:

I know what it is based on, I just couldn't tell from the concept pics if that's who it was supposed to be. Again, crappy parts for that that guy.

Echo Faction is just Ultimate SE with a new head, and yet I still like it.

Wait, was the Echo faction trooper just a concept vault guy? He'd make a great squad builder, and good base for updating some of those old 25th Joes.

You know, I'd get a real kick out of it if Hasbro could match weapons with load-outs a little better. But I guess they figure most people don't care - referencing that Echo troopers SCAR with his UZI pouches.

And boy... can we get anything other than the SE body lately? Of course, I guess that's what the new stuff is for, like Duke. He won't be peg-warming around my way, that's for sure.

At least we're not getting slit wrist figures anymore :) I remember during the 25th line all the figures were being made with that stupid mold..

He's not gonna peg warm because there is one in the case, and the likelihood of most stores getting more than 2 cases is probably pretty slim.

Excellent coverage YT1!!!

First of all, I am very thankfull that we have a convention every year. There are a lot of positives such the con exclusives, celebs, panels, friends, vendors the and vast knowledge of the very nice and approachable fellow fan in Justin Bell. Those are the fun things to do and to see the voice actors, creators and comic artist/writers, it makes it over the top when you can afford it.

Now to the negatives. I am only posting these as I wished that the convention would change For the better.

-The real reason people go to the convention is due to the Convention Attendee Only Exclusives. On the reverse side, if the Club sold them online to all of their members, there would not be a lot of people to show up in my opinion.

-The convention is just too expensive depending where you live to visit every year.
-Over the past couple of years, Hasbro has treated Joe Con as a low tier convention to reveal new products. They used to treat Joe Con as one of the premier cons to reveal the G.I. Joe toyline. Now, Joe Con is third behind SDCC and NYTF.

-There was not a large Hasbro Diorama this year. That is one of the coolest things to see at the convention each year. Even if they couled not show upcoming 4-inch product, they could have even did a Kre-O version and I think most fans would have been in awe.

-There was not an IDW comic panel this year. Currently, and especially since the movie is over, the comic is the main promotional and story piece for the brand.

-It is too clicky. There are some groups that are non approachable unless you know them as they just ignore you. I generally have small talk with most of the people that I meet at the convention and have met some very cool people that I still keep in touch with, but the problem is still there as others have experienced and have stated to me. It is not an issue of being outgoing as I am an extrovert. I have always been popular in high school and in college and with the convention, I always feel very left out as an outsider to those 'cool' groups because I have in the past differed on their opinions on Hisstank despite apologizing and taking the higher ground while constantly supporting them in this hobby. There are too many know-it-alls too in those groups too. I am very friendly and am easy going and just try and ignore the "better than you attitude" but it does come back every time I go. I just like to part in all of the groups and be friendly to everyone but the elitist attitude is such a turn off.

-The casino night is a joke to win anything as an individual as you might as well give all of your fake casino money and go in as a group with a lot of friends to cash in so that you can have a chance at winning something as there are other very large groups that do this and make it very hard to win anything at all.

-The costume contest is pathetic as it is just a popularity contest by vote of loudness where mainly one person wins it all despite that person being a very good fan and contributor to the hobby makes it not fun at all. Especially, when there are better costumes made.

-The overpriced scalping from both of the fans and vendors is a big turn off that make it feel as you can get a better deal off eBay. The sad thing is that the Club will probably not go back to the Illinois/Indiana/Michigan/Ohio anytime soon as they have stated in the past that the low attendance of the vendors is the reason that they will not go back to California. From what I am hearing, this year's convention was just as bad as the San Fransisco Joe Con in which the Club was referring.

-The Club is disorganized every year while at the convention. They have a lot of worker/volunteers, but they seem to not be on the same page a lot of the time. Especially when picking up the box sets and the attendee exclusives. Last year, just about 60 of the Golden Ticketers did not get their badges punched on the Thursday pickup and that meant that they got 6 times the exclusive limit whereas the non golden ticket only got one of each and do to this, many did not get an oppurtuniny to buy them as they sold out especially fast. This Is because for the first 2 hours, only one of the four cashiers knew to punch the badges for the first 2 hours of the long lined pickup.

-Lastly, regarding this year, there were no new reveals other than the Iron Klaw and other Club exclusive figure based characters might be appearing in the IDW comic, 9 remaining characters of the FSS 2.0, the 5 new concept vault characters and that the 2013 SDCC set will be a set that "will fills holes in our collections". Like many, I was just expecting to hear more on what is to come . A new cartoon? A new direction of figures after the movie figures? An inside look to the 50th Anniversary? Those are the main things that did not get answered. I guess the next convention will be better than this one.

Despite my complaints for the better, I love Joe Con and wish I could go every year.

I didn't get a chance to post anything directly after JoeCon due to a matter that needed attention but now that everything is calmed down I can post about my experience in Indy. This was my first JoeCon and I was really excited to be able to take my 2 boys with me. First a comment about the host city Indianapolis: I have never seen such a clean and friendly city. Everyone we talked to that lived there was very friendly and after the parachute drop we walked around the city and found the 911 Memorial and a beautiful canal system. I would travel back to Indy in heartbeat for another Con. The actual JoeCon itself: Our first impression when we got to the hotel was a Club Rep walked up to us and greeted us and when I explained that we weren't sure where to go he walked us thru step by step what to do. Every club rep was very friendly and helpful and had great interactions with my boys who went dressed like their favorite Joes. The folks attending JoeCon was also very friendly and I didn't meet a single one that was rude or discourteous. There was one guy who was saw us standing in line and he brought over a tub of old joe vehicles and asked if my boys wanted to play with the stuff while they waited. Package pick up was smooth, since my name ended in W there was only 1 other person in the W line. We then went to the club store line and in under 2 hours we did our shopping. The club people in the store was very friendly and talked to the boys about what was their favorite things they wanted. The next day was the parachute drop and besides the goofball adults knocking kids around for the kreos we had a great time. I can say that we had a great time and we are planning to attend more JoeCons in the future, of course depending on the location. It was a great time for the whole family and I can really complain about anything major. The Con Exclusives were cool (I can admit it now that I bought them due to my kids liking them and YES, I gave them to them and they are loving playing with them). A very fun car ride, a great time spent with my boys doing something that we all love and seeing them getting more and more into G.I. Joe was the best part for me. Now lets hope JoeCon 2014 is within a car ride and we will be there, maybe even a train ride since I have a phobia of flying.

I am very critical of the club but I have to give them a thumbs up for putting together a fun family event. Plus getting to meet some great fans of Joe was a plus.

I cant speak much about the panels since I was unable to attend.

Hey guys, I'll chime in since I was at the con for TNI.

I clicked on the thread and was about page 50-60ish.. so I didn't go through it all, but I'll try to cover some of the stuff I saw mentioned to clear things up.

The cardback print with vault stuff on the back(Data viper?) was a fan made item being sold at a booth(I belive it was the same guy that does the hisstank customs, but don't quote me on that).

The mention of the club helping with SDCC was just that. Someone asked in the Hasbro Q&A at the end of their panel if there was a way to get some of the SDCC exclusives out to fans easier. He then mentioned using the club and everyone loved the idea and clapped. Hasbro responded, that was a good idea and they would love to work with the club to try to help get the exclusives to the people that can't attend SDCC.

The Iceberg SNAFU: someone posted a pic from the panel of the prototype. I believe it's a Clonetrooper head with a hat added. What happened(what they said in the panel) is they made that head and put it on the body and sent a vintage head to china with the body for them to get an idea on what do make, China was supposed to sculpt up a new head, not use what they sent, those were supposed to be just to give them ideas on what to make. By the time they got the info back, it was already too late and they didn't want to delay it any longer, so they had to go with the vintage head.

Concept vault 2.0 was done kind of secretly while some panels were going on and I actually had to leave one panel to get pics before it closed for the day. Everyone asked and Derryl and John said that they want them made, along with the first vault figures, but the have to answer to the higher ups. They said to stay vocal on the board/blogs and facebook/twitter and they'll try to get them out.

They didn't have anything new, but the Eaglehawk was a big hit. John actually unboxed it in front of us, so the second one you see in pics around the interwebs is the actual one we'll be getting. He was even putting on the decals and it was really awesome talking to him and Derryl. Like YT1 said, they're really trying to get some of this stuff out to us. Kwinn, they were able to sneak in, they threw him in the line up for movie figures and nobody said anything and questioned it, and he was green lit.

Evrything that has to do with the figures this year was really messed up because of the delay. Hasbro had nothing to do with it and they were hurt big time because of this. They had big displays planned, bigger sections in the toy aisles planned, all sorts of stuff, but stores have to do their plan-o-grams ahead of time, and the delay really screwed things up for them.

Even the lack of figures on the pegs is a result of the delay, the stores were still wondering about stock after the delay, and they still had a bad taste in their mouth from the last movie. Factories were already switching over to other lines and they had no control and basically had to be fit in to make their stuff for it to be out when the movie hit.

Wave 3 is their attempt to push things along and it will be 12 figures, one per case, some figures were pushed out of the wave and some moved up to make sure a good assortment was in there. One thing to note, my friend and I pushed them on why Jinx and Blind Master weren't out, being movie figures, you'd think they would be. They thought they were already out on pegs, and at one point was texting someone back at HQ trying to find out why they were pushed back and someone like Budo was pushed forward.
They later did hear back that yes, Jinx and Blind Master have not entered production yet, but with the rest of wave 4, they're on a wait and see, and they hope they can get them to us in some way/shape/form.

A couple of tidbits, someone mentioned in about 22 pages back, lol.. but NINJAS SELL! Plain and simple, Hasbro has been doing market research, and test with kids and that's why there is a big ninja influence in the line. The Ninja 4x4(VampII) was supposed to be tan in color to match the vehicles in the movie. But they had a couple painted up all ninja-ey and then the tan ones and the kids they tested with all went with the "Snake eyes" one first.

Battle Kata RB was also explained(for those that saw the movie, you'll notice he didn't use it how you would have thought he would have). The original idea was for the final fight scene to include the weapon how it's supposed to be used(the way the figure uses it), but after The Rock's strong performance, they didn't think they needed it to sell his character anymore, so paramount ditched the idea. Of course, Hasbro had no idea they did, till it was too late, so that's why the figure and the toys and all that still support it.

The Hasbro and club panels were really good. Even though there wasn't much shown, it still shows how much they put towards this thing we all love as GI Joe. Be a internet fanboy all you want and scoff at the idea that they care, but they do, if you've been to the shows and conventions and not just yelled at them online, then you'd see this.

It's funny how online, everyone hates what Hasbro and the club do, but at the con, they literally get a standing ovation and have people thanking them left and right.

I agree that they still need to get it together a little, but there are always bumps in the road, no matter what you do or how long you've been doing it. You can't please everyone, but they do try.

I think that was most of what I read, if anyone needs any clearing up, let me know. I was there Friday and Sat, but since there was lack of news and it wasn't "worth it" for the site to keep me there, I came home sat night.

Who in their right mind (yes, even HT members) would think that the GIJCC helping out with ANYTHING is a good idea??

Mee too. They really screwed this up. Sadly, these figures will be rare and expensive like the messed up Dial-Tone figure.

Then you delay the fucking thing that people paid for and fix it, you don't box it up just so you can sell shit just to sell shit.

We should seriously get a petition together for the Club and let them know we want a fixed head. Won't fucking do any good, but folks should let them know that the head is shit and we're not happy with it. Maybe it's a waste of effort, but it's at least something. I was really looking forward to Iceberg, and instead we got Iceblerg.
