Actually, I think it looks pretty damn good. On my end, at least, it looks like an LED strip, which is a good thing.

So I find myself thinking about getting the oversized KO "Toyworld" Throttlebots: Chase, Searchlight, and Rollbar(Trace, Aurora, and Grind Rod) because they are MP scaled. If they make the rest of them, having a set of Masterpiece Throttlebots would be pretty sweet.
I just don't remember throttlebots. I know they exist, but the nostalgic corners of my mind have no recollection of them. I must have outgrown TFs by the time they came along.
Of the random/obscure subsets, I get all giddy when people talk about Jumpstarters or Omnibots... "Reinforcements from Cybertron!"

I'm hoping it's a sign they're retiring it. There hasn't actually been a Megatron repaint other than a second run, and they did an MP-04 "final" release before launching MP-10.
It's retarded for them not to do an MP-10 scaled Megatron. Not sure why they're wasting time on this, other than knowing people will buy it. I don't want an all-chrome fiddly Megatron, so it's an easy pass here.

Yeah, my first reaction was they were trying to wring every last dollar out of that mold before announcing the one that everyone wants. That's a very hasbro thing to do. So in some sense, it makes me more convinced that the new-scaled version isn't all that far away.
Fansproject Function X-4 "Not"-Mindwipe arrived today. Wish I hadn't packed everything else up cause I'd get some comparison pics with him, Quad-U, and some official toys. However, I think he's pretty neat. His transformation is actually pretty simple compared to Quad-U.

He came with the original release (and he was yellow), and Impossible Toys made one too a few years back. Silver kremzeek in this release seems like an odd choice.
Looks like an upscaled Classics (if the Classics one didn't suck) but I don't think it's MP quality. It looks like a decent Classics design, but it's too big.
The only ones I've seen design MP-level figures are Omnigonix (and that's not made it to production yet) and FansToys. Everything else doesn't have that aesthetic, and this one's included.

I have no issue with the classics appearance. I think most of the MP cars look like classics with G1 design cues, which is ok. And I'm more ok with it given how unimpressive the real Classics Mirage really is. My only issue with Invisible is the head. It just isn't very "mirage", but I assume that between now and production they'll work on that, as it's one of the bigger gripes.
It's a toss-up though, as I would like a mp-scaled mirage, but I also assume that a Tak version is inevitable... so is it worth getting this a placeholder? If Tak doesn't make one, then it certainly beats nothing.

Not being super into the MP line, I still have to agree that it doesn't look as "MP'ish" as the MP line or even the 3rd parties you mentioned MR...but I do think it looks nice...though I'm not sure it looks almost $100 to my door nice.

I think Takara will get to Jazz, Sunstreaker, Mirage, and Tracks, of the cars, and probably do Ironhide/Ratchet, Hound, and maybe Trailbreaker/Hoist of the "truck" sized guys, so I will hold off unless future pics really wow me, but that image doesn't do anything for me. I'll likely get Omni's Sunstreaker, though, unless Takara makes an announcement anytime soon, because he looks like an MP. This thing, does not.
They're burnin' through them much faster than I ever dreamed since a few years back, so who knows? They're not getting them out as fast as I'd want, which is why 3P companies help and why I support them, but this year we've gotten quite a few official ones, supplemented by the 3P guys.
If they're smart, they'll double-up on the repaint guys (like Ironhide and Ratchet) and intersperse the unique molds (like Hound or Tracks) and finish them up before fans lose interest.
They do need to do some Decepticons though, like Megs 2.0 (which is their biggest hole on the Decepticon/leader side) plus updated Skywarp and Thundercracker (Hasbro made TC, but Skywarp DEFINITELY needs to be updated) to match the revised Starscream, and they could do the coneheads. If they do 2-3 Autobots (who are small) for every large Decepticon, I think they could get quite a lot done in the next 3 years or so.
They keep selling out, so to me that seems like it's doing pretty well. I think?
I'm as annoyed by that as I am MASK being shoved into the 25th GI Joe line. At least Star Saber is Transformers, but it's not TF to me. It's that silly later-year nonsense that's post-movie when none of the TFs were anything in disguise anymore, and just robots that turned into non-robot-sorta-vehicles and shit.
Now fans of that era won't shut up about "Can we get X" to flesh out that era. They need to stay focused on one era, and then move on. That's what annoys me about the ME Joes… we got fucking Matt Trakker but not Frostbite, or a good 30 more figures that almost all fans would want more. And then, Matt Trakker is a one-off, so fans of MASK should be annoyed that they didn't flesh out that series with more figures. (Not that I want more, they need to nip that shit in the bud when they do something dumb like that.)
All I asked when I put these Teletraan backgrounds up for free 7 years ago, was for companies to not use them for promotional photos.

It doesn't help that Invisible is nothing more than a CG render at this point. I seriously doubt it'll be coming out when they say, and as the pics roll out, we'll get a much better feel if this has any place on the MP shelf. I wasn't thrilled with Omnigonix just based on their renders, but protos proved to look badass. So I guess that I'm reserving judgement, but I'm just not bothered by the aesthetics nearly as much as some.
I'm with you on star saber. What a waste of engineering effort. Next we'll get a MP beast wars guy, just to whip those sad bastard fans into a frenzy too. I dislike the red-headed-stepchild releases that are effectively orphans, because they fit with nothing else on your shelf. And they do just encourage the vocal minority fans of the little shitty secondary property to be more vocal.

Not exactly TF's, but close enough. I broke down and grabbed these two. I only had about a half-dozen gobots before far superior TFs took over my robot-flavored childhood, but I still have a little nostalgia spot for some of the main characters.
Somehow they look somewhere between KO, Gundam and Zord. Not something I'm interested in, but kind of cool? Just not digging the aesthetic or anything to do with Gobots.
They aren't by the same manufacturer. Cy-Kill is a 3P product, while Fitor is a japanese toy of a different anime (Machine Robo) that also used the same mold as the gobot. But they scale well together, and if you're into modern representations of gobots, there are scant few choices. I recognize they aren't for everyone, but they hit a button for me nonetheless.
What prompted me to pull the trigger was that DX9 Invisible is supposed to have a repaint as Crasher, and it'll be roughly the same scale. If someone makes a Cop-Tur, we'll have the main four renegades, which is pretty cool, you know, if you're into that kind of thing.
I wouldn't go whole-hog into collecting a full line of modern gobots (I'm not THAT into them), but there are only about 7-8 characters that anyone gives a damn about, and that's a number I can collect without guilt.

Dammit, I gotta admit that KFC Blaster is looking decent. Also, it's one of the few 3P names that doesn't sound absolutely silly. "Transistor" is a great name. E.A.V.I. Metal on the other hand, and KFC? Sigh.
I haven't liked anything else they've done enough to buy it, but it's looking pretty solid. Not perfect, but pretty good looking. I've heard all sorts of feedback on their QC though, so I'm not sure if I want to bite or not?

Apparently, people who've been getting the test shots have said that the QC seems to be better on "Blaster", and that he's just about as solid as MP Soundwave.
Heh, funny though... I haven't transformed Soundwave or Rodimus because they both feel fiddly and fragile. Those hips on Soundwave seem dangerously frail.

Rodimus is notoriously frail and prone to breakage, but I haven't had one issue with Soundwave. The hips seem frail, sure, but they have held up fine thus far.
Ugh now there's a gold version of MP-5. To me, that says they're milking the shit out of the mold before retiring it.

I was able to figure out how to get him into his alt mode with a little leg mistransformation. Not the cleanest, but considering I gave up on it early on, I'd say it's not too shabby myself.
