Eddie, "chibi" is like "super deformed" where the body is small and the head is huge, almost baby proportions. They're "cute" for lack of a better term.
Yeah, the original Bumblebee and Cliffjumper figures were considered "chibi-fied" or "Super-deformed" "penny racers".
Geez, man, Google!
Anybody have this figure and is interested in selling it and NOT trying to send their kids to medical school with the profits?
Abso-fuckin-lutely. They're incredible. I'll be on every one of these, assuming they have proper gobot decos. Leader-1, Turbo... I'm really jonsing for a Cop-Tur, as it was my very first transforming robot toy of any kind before I discovered TFs. I didn't know he was evil, just thought he looked cool. Picked him up at a Big K store (unrelated chain to K-Mart, was actually bought by WM in the early 80's).Anyone seen the new Gobots from Japan?
I don't even know he is or any of the other throttlebots, but the combined mode looks really cool. If it wasn't for that feature, I wouldn't give two sh!ts about them.
I much prefer MTs Hound in bot mode from every angle. Plus he's got the better feet. Though I do like TFCs versions shoulders better. And I think TFC has the superior looking alt mode.
I don't think either carries the MP aesthetic very well though.
Well, I'm clearly in the MT camp. If you look at screen caps, the MT cylindrical shoulders are very toon accurate. And while the TFC alt mode is more accurate to a real world WWII jeep, the MT version is actually more accurate to the G1 toy AND the jeep iteration Hound was based on.
But it's the duck/clown feet on the TFC version that seal the deal. That is one of my biggest pet peeves in TFs, one that is rampant in the CHUG line, Alts too. Big flat duck feet on a ball-jointed stick that appear out of nowhere. It just ruins the whole bot for me.
Just wait and see if the KOs of the rest + combiner kibble get made, then you'll have MP sized versions.
I realize I'm probably in the minority, but I liked the TFC Ironhide. I think of him as a beefy guy, almost bodyguard-esque. But hound isn't huge or strong. He's the Autobot equivalent of a park ranger. Their aesthetic works much better on IH than hound.
What would you change about the MT figure to get him above a subjective 80%?
Can't quite put my finger on it. There's just something still off about the proportions or panel detailing... It's close but not quite the same as official TT ones.
Maybe in-scale with Bumblebee and in color will help... He should be somewhere taller than Bee but smaller than the cars, right? I do like the head sculpt, but the thing bugging me the most is the front grill winch. It's too cartoony or something.
I'm all over it. If you have anything resembling an MP collection, this almost has to be a priority. It doesn't hurt that it looks spectacular.
Also, I'm in the camp that thinks TT won't be doing him anytime soon, at least not in his traditional G1 gun form. I think they are gun-shy (pun intended), and that it's far from a priority for them. Furthermore, they keep showing that CW tank Megatron with MP-10 in the promotional photos. Sure, it could just be for scale, but it could also be, "here you go, stop whining, you aren't getting a gun, take it or leave it". The fact that he's 40% taller than CW Prime makes you think he wasn't intended for that line at all, or that HasTak is straddling the fence and is trying to please both camps with one figure. It looks ok (nice head, terrible legs and weird gun), but I can't see it satisfying MP, CW, or CHUG collectors.
So yes, you should get Apollyon, lest he turn out like the igear coneheads or quakewave where everyone laments passing on him while secondary prices go through the roof. If it was a minor character, the decision might be muddier, but for Megs, I think it's a no-brainer.
GAH! You guys are swaying me. Guess I could put in a preorder just to be safe.
